MONTEREY — After suffering a 10-0 loss to Cathedral Monday, Monterey head coach Eric Richard saw what his team was made of in a 14-4 win against Franklin Parish.

With Jake Cooper on the mound, the Wolves battled, and used a 10-run fourth inning to propel Monterey toward a 14-4 win in five innings Tuesday night.

“I thought we came out and hit the ball real well, and that’s the reason why we played a team like Cathedral,” Richard said. “We’re not going to see anybody better than Quinton Logan at Cathedral. You play great teams to make you better.”

Jake Barlow got things started for the Wolves in the third inning, when he belted a 2-run shot over the fence to give Monterey a 4-3 lead. Then, Monterey exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth to separate itself from Franklin Parish.

“We probably had seven or eight runs in that inning,” Richard said.

Monterey will host Avoyelles Charter at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

ACCS 5, Prentiss Christian 1

PRENTISS — Adams County Christian School’s Wade Simpson pitched eight innings in a doubleheader Tuesday, allowing only three runs and three hits.

In the first game, a 5-1 victory for ACCS, Simpson walked only two batters and struck out 10.

“He’s just a competitor, and he’s going to give you everything he’s got,” ACCS head coach Richy Spears said. “He always wants the ball in his hands.”

The bats started clicking for ACCS in the third inning, when Bradley Jones scored Cole Gatlin on a double, and Luke Thomas scored Jones on an ensuing double.

Spears said the main statistic in that game wasn’t the 10 hits, but in fact, it was the two errors commited by his club.

“We’ve been able to score all season long, that hasn’t been our problem,” Spears said. “We’ve been in every game, but we finally made some plays and stayed away from a bad inning.”

ACCS 1, Prentiss Christian 2

PRENTISS — After throwing just 80 pitches in five innings of work, Spears elected to put Simpson back on the mound for the Rebels.

Spears pulled Simpson in the third inning after Simpson allowed two runs to Prentiss Christian.

Unfortunately for ACCS, the bats couldn’t get going in the second game, as the Rebels were limited to only three hits. Despite garnering only one hit, Prentiss Christian was able to squeak out a 2-1 win in five innings.

Delta Charter 4, Caldwell Parish 5

COLUMBIA — With a tie ballgame heading into the sixth inning of a predetermined five-inning contest, Delta Charter scored a run to go on top of Caldwell Parish in a junior varsity clash.

Unfortunately for the Storm, the lead 4-3 lead was short lived, as Caldwell Parish scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the win.

“We didn’t play very well,” Delta Charter head coach Jarrett Hoffpauir said. “We came out real slow, and we made a lot of mistakes. We’re just not communicated and made more mental mistakes than anything, not physical errors.”

The errors and mental mistakes Hoffpauir eluded to allowed Caldwell Parish to score five runs, despite being held to only four hits in the game by Trent Miller.

“(Miller) did really good,” Hoffpauir said. “He kept us in the game. He battled well.”

Cameron King went 2-for-3 in the loss, and Tyler Heard and Freddie Mango each recorded a single.
