MONROE, La. — Luke Thomas and Wade Simpson combined to pitch a two-hitter as the Adams County Christian School Rebels pulled away for an 18-8 win over the River Oaks School Mustangs in five innings Tuesday afternoon.

Thomas got the win after going two innings and with ACCS leading River Oaks 9-4. Simpson came in and immediately gave up four runs in the bottom of the third inning that cut the Rebels’ lead from 11-4 to 11-8. But he settled down and kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard in his final two innings.

The Rebels scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning and five runs in the top of the fifth to put the 10-run mercy rule in effect and Simpson did the rest.

It was by no means a clean game. Even though River Oaks had just two hits, the Mustangs were aided by several walks and four ACCS errors. And the Mustangs’ pitching gave up 12 hits to the Rebels.

Simpson belted two doubles and went 3-for-5 at the plate and Torrey Smith was 2-for-2 with a double.

ACCS (5-8) will play host to Laurel Christian School at 7 p.m. Thursday.
