Bogue chitto — Sam Parker tossed a five-inning shutout and the Cathedral Green Wave bats came to life late in the game as they cruised past Bogue Chitto 12-0 on the road Thursday.

“We started off slow,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “We can’t afford to do that, we have to come out of the gates playing aggressive. But, we were able to get through it tonight.”

The game stayed tight until the third inning, where Cathedral upped their 2-0 lead to 5-0. Then, the Green Wave put the Wildcats away with a seven-run fifth inning.

“We had runners on first and third a lot during that inning and we had a lot of big hits,” Beesley said.

Nearly every Cathedral batter recorded a hit in the game and the Green Wave finished the contest with 10 total hits.

“We hit well up and down the lineup,” Beesley said.

While Porter’s Chapel is the next opponent for Cathedral, it may be hard for them to not look ahead to a showdown with rival St. Aloysius to decide the district title next week.

“Bogue Chitto was able to split with St. Al last week, so that makes the series even bigger,” Beesley said. “We know we have to take one out of two to win district, but we want to have the frame of mind that we have to win both. It is a big series.”

Cathedral improved to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in district play with Thursday’s win.

Natchez High drops both games in doubleheader

CARRIERE — The Natchez High Bulldogs were still in search for their first district win of the season entering Thursday night, but it eluded them once again as they dropped both games in a doubleheader against Pearl River Central.

“We played pretty good, better this time than we did the first time we played them,” Natchez head coach Dan Smith said. “They are a pretty good team, undefeated in district.”

Natchez fell in the first game 14-1, and followed that up with an 11-1 loss in game two.

Smith stressed the importance of the team’s next district series with Wingfield, as earning a playoff berth becomes tougher each week.

“It is the most important series of the year,” Smith said. “We are playing for the playoff spot. We need to win at least two of our last four games. I’m shooting for three so there is no doubt we’ll make the playoffs.”
