MANGHAM — The Vidalia softball team gave up five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Mangham High School a 7-6 win Friday night.
Vidalia head coach Forrest Foster said the Lady Vikings bobbled routine balls in the inning and Mangham generated offense with great hits in the bottom half of the inning. Foster said the Lady Vikings had not been in a situation where they’ve had to hold on to a lead when everything is going the opponent’s way all season long. He said the loss would prove to be a learning opportunity for Vidalia.
“We got in a little big of a panic mood there, but this is good for us,” Foster said. “We have to learn to maintain our composure, and this is good to experience heading into the playoffs.”
Vidalia’s Taylor Rodgers was credited with the loss, and despite the five-run inning by Mangham, Foster said Rodgers executed well from the circle.
A bright spot for Vidalia was bunting. Foster said the team executed six fake bunt steals and was able to lay the bunts down.
“It was the best we’ve done all year long,” Foster said.
The Vikings tallied nine hits in the win, and Rodgers led the team with two hits and three RBI.
With the loss, Vidalia falls to 14-6 on the season.
