PORT GIBSON — Services for Alice Ann Stone Lewis, 70, of Jackson, who was embraced by God and entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 30, 2015, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christian Chapel Christian Church in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be at noon to 6 p.m. today, with family hour at 6 to 7 p.m. at Collins Northside Chapel in Jackson.

Mrs. Lewis was born June 21, 1944, in Fayette, the daughter of James Stone and Annie Davis Stone.

She was the eldest of five children; two loving sisters, Daisy Turner of San Francisco and Brenda Shepherd of Lorman; and two loving brothers, Richard Stone and Ronald Stone of Jackson.

Ann, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, grew up a member of Fayette Christian Chapel in Fayette and has been in the Disciples of Christ Church for her entire life. She was an active member of the United Christian Church in Jackson for more than 35 years. An avid lover of the Christian community and the word of God, she often could be found in the pews of various churches across the state of Mississippi for revivals and other religious functions.

Ann was a 1962 graduate of Liddell High, a 1965 graduate of Alcorn State University with a bachelor of administration in English and a 1968 graduate of the University of California at Davis with a master of administration in speech.

Ann married James Lewis in 1964. From this union, three children were born, Lori Lewis, Stacy Lewis and Dailan Lewis.

Alice, as she was known in Jackson, was an educator, public relations expert, journalist, real estate broker and entrepreneur. She worked as staff writer at Alcorn State University in the office of public relations, director of public relations at Kentucky State, WJMI radio, Tougaloo College and Jackson State University as professor of English and mass communications. Alice wrote articles that were published in a number of publications. She interviewed a wide range of people from all walks of life. She began her real estate career as a Realtor with Moman’s Realty in 1979, followed by Golden Deed’s Realty in 1981, both in Jackson. She started Directed Realty in 1985, where she served hundreds of families as Realtor, broker and friend for more than 30 years.

Alice served on countless boards and committees across the state such as the Capitol Street Boys Club and most recently as advisory board member of the Margaret Walker Alexander Center at Jackson State University.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lori Anita Lewis; her parents; and half-brother, Byron Stone.

Survivors include two adoring sons, Stacy Lewis and wife, Magdalen, of Atlanta and Dalian Lewis and wife, Danielle, of Jackson; 12 loving grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; three half-brothers and sisters; and her lifelong friend, Josie Bell Geohagen of Chicago.

She also leaves her longtime canine companion, Puffy.

Ann’s memories will forever rest in the hearts of her family and friends.
