NATCHEZ — Services for Luther Harry McMorris, 84, who died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at noon Saturday at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Sibley with the Rev. Walter Sago officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at 4 to 4:45 p.m., with a celebration of life wake service at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. McMorris was born April 12, 1931, in Wilkinson County, the son of Willie McMorris Sr. and Harriet “Hattie “ Johnson.
He attended the Catholic school and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.
Luther was retired from the U.S. Post Office. He was also a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church No. 2 and was affiliated with Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning and preserving.
Luther was also a New Orleans Saints fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Georgia McMorris; one brother, Willie Jones; and one sister, Stella McDonald.
Survivors include seven sons, Luther McMorris and wife, Louise, of New Orleans, Gregory McMorris and wife, Karen, Ronald and companion, Kim Walker, Donald McMorris, Eric Scott McMorris, Keytree McMorris and wife, Michele, and Cedric Turner; three daughters, Veronica Skipper and husband, Eugene, Neacy Turner and Tewanna Tyler; one brother, Willie McMorris Jr.; three sisters, Louise McMorris and husband, Addie, Dorothy Whitley, Leola Barnes; one aunt, Leola McCullar; two goddaughters, Cassandra and Tasca Jones; and other relatives and friends.
