NATCHEZ — A humane society fundraiser, a classic Broadway musical and several benefits will offer area residents outdoor activities this weekend.

The forecast for the weekend predicts temperatures will have highs in the low 90s and lows in the low 70s with some clouds Friday and Sunday. Saturday may have some showers and summer thunderstorms, but the forecast predicts the day will be mostly clear.

The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will have its third annual Lake St. John fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at 5565 Louisiana 568, Susan Callon’s lake house.

The sunflower-themed party asks for a $25 per person donation, which will pay for access to a buffet of country cooking, a cash bar and a silent auction.

All of the funds will be directed to helping animals at the NACHS shelter, including the purchase of kennels and cat condos at the society’s new facility, which is currently under construction.

NLT presents “The Music Man”

Natchez Little Theatre will present “The Music Man,” the musical nod to small-town America about a grifter who tries to convince a small town they need a boy’s band, a con that is complicated when he falls in love with the town’s piano teacher.

All tickets are $20. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday.

The theater will also have a 2 p.m. Sunday showing.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online at natchezlittletheatre.org or by calling 601-442-9556.

Benefits

The Miss-Lou Community will have two benefit events this weekend.

The first, starting at 11 a.m. Friday, will be a cookout at the Providence Playground on River Terminal Road.

The proceeds will go to help Earon “EB” Brown, who has significant medical expenses. Donations are also welcome and the public is invited.

A co-ed softball tournament at Liberty Ball Park to benefit Mary Sanford and her family will begin 7 p.m. Friday with five games and will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday and continue throughout the day.

Sanford’s husband, William Sanford, died earlier this year after a long battle with an autoimmune illness.

Team entries in the tournament are $150, and the event will include raffle items such as a barbecue grill, fishing gear and coolers.

“If they want to play ball, they can bring a glove, and if they don’t want to play ball, we can find something for them to do,” organizer Cathy Warren said.

Starting 6 p.m. Saturday, friends and family of Khloe Marie Williams, 17-months, will have a fundraiser at New Beginnings Baptist Church for her.

Williams was born prematurely and her kidneys did not develop properly, which has led to issues with her blood pressure and lung development and seizures. She is currently in dialysis.

Because Williams requires so much attention, her mother — Wania Winston — often has to miss work, Williams’ aunt Luvenia Gaylor said.

The fundraiser will be a church service.

“We didn’t have the resources to buy something and sell it to get the money back, so this is going to be a church service of praise, worship and healing, and if a person wants to stop by and donate and give prayers, it is greatly appreciated,” Winston said.

Winston can be reached for more information at 601-809-1268.
