NATCHEZ — A third suspect has been arrested in connection with a September 2014 murder in Monterey.
James H. Anderson Jr., 23, 341 Old Washington Road, Natchez, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of accessory after the fact to murder in connection with the death of John Perritt, 63.
Perritt was found dead outside his Eloise Road residence Sept. 22, when someone grading a road near the house smelled something foul and saw a blanket with a human foot sticking out from beneath.
Investigators have declined to discuss the specifics of the case, but two suspects have previously been arrested in connection with the death.
George E. Byrd, 26, 422 Dumas Drive, Apt. B, Natchez, was arrested on a charge of first degree murder, while Elijah K. Hoggatt, 2 Saragossa Drive, Apt. B, Natchez, was charged with accessory after the fact to first degree murder.
Anderson was likewise charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigator Phillip Webber said Anderson allegedly helped try to conceal the crime and hide evidence.
“This case is still under investigation, and anybody we find who had anything to do with it, trying to cover it up or conceal it, will also be arrested,” he said.
Perritt’s car was found in Natchez Sept. 23 and was processed for evidence.
Anderson was previously arrested and charged with armed robbery and murder in Natchez in connection with the Jan. 3, 2013, killing of 49-year-old Tyrone Bernard, who police said was ambushed in an apparent robbery as he locked up the liquor store where he worked on Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
When the matter went before an Adams County grand jury, however, Anderson and one of the other co-defendants were not indicted, and the charges were not pursued.
