NATCHEZ — Services for Charles David Lofton Sr., 80, of Cleveland, Tenn., formerly of Natchez, who died Sunday, July 5, 2015, in Cleveland, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Hale and the Rev. Grady Fulton officiating.

Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Lofton was born June 5, 1935, in Rosetta, the son of Jeff Davis Sr. and Ettie Rebecca Lofton.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Natchez. He was employed by Johns Manville for 6-1/2 years and Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company for 23-1/2 years. He retired from Angola Prison as a security guard after 10 years of service.

David partnered with his wife, Margaret, in ERA Realty Company for 10 years.

He played the steel guitar since he was 10 years old. He played with Billy Tabbs Western Swing Band in the early 1960s. He later played with Shorty Powers and Donald Stroud. He also played with the Country Boys with the Havard Brothers, James Fuqua, Kenneth Barfoot and JJ Whitehead. In later years, David played in nursing homes with Lamar Felter and Ed Havard.

Mr. Lofton married Margaret Seyfarth in December of 1957. During their 57-1/2 years of marriage, they had three wonderful sons; five handsome grandsons; five beautiful granddaughters; and four wonderful great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lofton was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Marion and Vermeil Seyfarth; two brothers, J.D. Lofton and Kenneth Lofton; one sister-in-law, Betty Lofton; and three brothers-in-law, Marion Edward Seyfarth Jr., Eddie Seyfarth and David Gray.

Survivors include his wife Margaret; sons, David Lofton Jr. and wife, Shannon, of Natchez, Danny Lofton and wife, Diane, of Ridgeland and Michael Lofton and wife, Jenna, of Cleveland; grandchildren, Tabitha Hale, Chandler Lofton, Daniel Lofton, Kimberly Wilson, Caitlin Lofton, Hannah Lofton, Clark Lofton, Joel Lofton, Levi Lofton and Karis Lofton; great-grandchildren, Hunter Holtsinger, Haley Lofton, Kaleigh Steverson and Kole Steverson; one brother, Robert Lofton; one sister, Louise Comeaux and husband, Willie; two brothers-in-law, Oscar Seyfarth and Henry Seyfarth; and three sisters-in-law, Jane Gray, Gloria Smith and Lennie Bea Lofton.

Pallbearers will be Chandler Lofton, Daniel Lofton, Keith Seyfarth, David Martin, Charles “Sonny” Smith and Bobby Moore.
