WATERPROOF — The Tensas Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for four inmates who apparently escaped from the Tensas Parish Detention Center early Monday morning.
Tensas Parish Sheriff Rickey Jones said four inmates — Travis Cox, Kindall Anderson, Charles N. Vaughman and Thomas Lee Furry — left the prison some time between midnight and 1 a.m. Monday. Jones said officials are unclear on how the men left a prison, except they apparently exited a door in the housing area.
“We don’t know if they manipulated the door with some object,” Jones said. “We are still reviewing tapes and videos at this time to establish what happened.”
The search Monday was limited to the Waterproof area.
“We are pretty much canvassing the Town of Waterproof,” Jones said. “We have got some of the Department of Corrections search teams helping us, flying over the area, but we haven’t broadened it yet.”
Jones said the sheriff’s office plans to speak with someone who is listed on one of the prisoner’s visitor’s list to find out more information.
Cox is described as a black male, 5-feet-10-inches tall, weighing 230 pounds.
Anderson is a black male, 5-feet-8-inches tall, weighing 150 pounds.
Vaughman is a white male, 5-feet-11-inches tall, weighing 200 pounds.
Furry is a white male, 5-feet-five-inches, weighing 160 pounds.
The information on what the inmates were in custody for was unavailable.
