CENTREVILLE — After a sluggish first half, the Centreville Academy Tigers took over in a big way in the second half thanks to a pair of unknown players as they defeated the Amite School Center Rebels 51-14 Friday night.
Centreville, last year’s MAIS Class AA state champions playing in its first year in Class AAA since the late 1990s, only led Amite School Center 14-8 at halftime and assistant coach Robbie Isonhood said the Tigers were a little concerned.
“Amite School Center, hat’s off to them. The first half, they played real hard and real aggressive,” Isonhood said. “It was a physical first half.”
But in the second half, the Tigers took over and never let the Rebels back in it. Junior running back Scout Chandler scored on an 11-yard run with 7:37 remaining in the third quarter to give Centreville a 21-8 lead.
Then Austen Addington, who had a long touchdown reception late in the first quarter, scored on touchdown runs of 22 and 67 yards late in the third quarter pushed the lead to 33-8. Addington finished with 129 yards rushing on nine carries.
Chandler had seven carries for 85 yards while Reynolds had 77 yards on just four carries. Tyler Caston had 17 carries for 105 yards. As a team, Centreville finished with 525 yards on the ground.
“Stone and Scout, we found out a lot about them,” Isonhood said. “I can’t say enough about Scout. Stone had great vision and ran the ball downhill.”
Britt Netterville completed just five of 15 passes for 164 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Defensively, Netterville had a solid performance with six tackles and one fumble recovery.
