BROOKHAVEN — Tyler Caston had three total touchdowns and Centreville Academy’s defense held Brookhaven Academy to just 177 yards of total offense as the Tigers roared past the Cougars 48-7 Friday night.
Centreville assistant coach Robbie Isonhood said he was pleased with how the Tigers bounced back and responded after a rough loss at MAIS Class AAAA Parklane Academy last week.
“They took the loss to Parklane to heart. We had a good week of practice. The defense really stepped up,” Isonhood said. “We were able to stop the run.”
Brookhaven Academy had just 76 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, Centreville used a lot of running backs in this game and none of them had at least 100 rushing yards. The Tigers’ leading rushers were Austen Addington with 70 yards on seven carries and Tyler Caston with 47 yards on 10 carries with two scores.
Also, ninth-grader Tyler Thomasie, who starts at quarterback for the junior varsity team, got some time under center for the Tigers in the second half to spell starting quarterback Britt Netterville.
Thomasie had a two-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter and threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to Caston with 7:57 left in the game.
Thomasie went 5-for-9 passing for 144 yards while Netterville was just 3-for-6 for 64 yards with two interceptions. Caston had three catches for 97 yards. As a team, Centrevill racked up 431 total yards of offense and had 19 first downs.
“Offensively, we made a few changes. We were able to run it better. Tyler’s been practicing with us. We wanted to see how Tyler composed himself. He really surprised us,” Isonhood said.
Stone Reynolds led the defense with seven tackles, Chris Jones had six tackles and Netterville contributed with five tackles.
“We played a good Brookhaven squad. They were ready for us,” Isonhood said.
Centreville Academy (2-1) opens up MAIS District 5-AAA play next Friday at 7 p.m. when it travels to Bogalusa, La. to take on Ben’s Ford Christian School.
