Natchez High resuming action Friday

NATCHEZ — Natchez High School allowed just 152 total yards against Jefferson County. Against Warren Central Friday, Natchez head coach Henry Garner is hoping to recreate the same success on defense.

Easier said than done, as Warren Central is coming off of a 300-yard rushing performance against Vicksburg Friday night.

“Their rushing attack concerns us because they hit multiple spots on the line and don’t try to attack one particular spot,” Garner said. “Their running game has always been good. The screens they run, the rushing attack, we hope to stop that.”

Along with the rushing attack, Warren Central (2-1) has proven it can get after opposing quarterbacks. The Vikings have accumulated 10 sacks in the first three games of the season, but with Natchez coming off of a bye week, the Bulldogs have had plenty of practice going over blocking assignments.

“I think we can give Chris (Scott) enough protection,” Garner said. “They bring a lot of pressure from the outside.”

While keeping Scott off of his back and exploiting perceived holes in Warren Central’s secondary is a top priority Friday, continuing Tydarrius Terrell hot start to the season is also a goal. Terrell has 271 rushing yards after two games of action.

“We expect another big game from him Friday because if we can block the way we should, our running game should work,” Garner said.

Natchez will host Warren Central at 7 p.m. Friday.
