Jefferson County falls to South Delta, 30-6

FAYETTE — The Jefferson County Tigers had a hard time moving the ball against a tenacious South Delta defense as the Bulldogs went on to take a stunning 30-6 win Friday night.
South Delta led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter before Jefferson County got on the board thanks to James Claiborne’s 1-yard touchdown run with 11:28 to go in the second quarter. However, the Tigers failed on the two-point conversion and still trailed 8-6.
The Bulldogs took over from there, scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter and another one in the third quarter. Arteise Myles had two touchdown runs and a 5-yard touchdown reception for South Delta.
Jefferson County was held to 165 yards of total offense and turned the ball over four times. Claiborne was 8-for-19 for 137 yards and tossed two interceptions.
The 1-3 Tigers will play host to Amite County next Friday at 7 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to take place at Amite County.
