CENTREVILLE — For the second straight year, Centreville Academy had no answer for Oak Forest Academy running back Kaylin Stewart as the senior scored three first-half touchdowns in the Yellow Jackets’ 34-14 win over the Tigers Friday night.
Stewart had touchdown runs of 10 and five yards in the first quarter and a five-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He finished with 114 yards on 20 carries.
And if trying to slow down Stewart wasn’t tough enough for Centreville, its own offense was almost nowhere to be seen. The Tigers had one of its worst offensive performances ever under head coach Bill Hurst – seven first downs and 90 yards of total offense.
Britt Netterville was 0-for-3 passing with one interception before being replaced by ninth-grader Tyler Thomasie, who was 11-for-20 for 73 yards, including a six-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Caston early in the second quarter.
Oak Forest’s offense was clicking on all cylinders. Led by Stewart as well as junior quarterback Giardina Jude, the Yellow Jackets had 235 rushing yards and 336 yards of total offense.
Jude threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Bransen Schwebel just past the midway point in the first quarter and had a three-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.
Wyatt Brabham provided the Tigers’ final points of the game on a 36-yard fumble return and the extra point with 4:19 left in the game.
Both Caston and Netterville had five receptions for 32 yards.
Centreville (3-2) returns to MAIS District 5-AAA action next Friday when it travels to Franklinton, La. to take on Bowling Green School. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
