ST. JOSEPH, La. — Despite getting nearly 300 yards of total offense from Tyreke Tolliver, the Sicily Island Tigers remained winless in its first season of varsity football after losing to the Tensas High School Panthers 36-32 Friday night in the LHSAA District 2-1A opener for both teams.
Tolliver completed nine of 18 passes for 228 yards with one interception. He also had 71 yards rushing on nine carries with one touchdown. Tyrell Jordan had two catches for 105 yards and Keonte Dunbar added two catches for 67 yards.
The problem for Sicily Island was that its defense could not make enough stops to give the Tigers a chance to pick up the win. They outscored the Panthers in back-to-back quarters, yet still trailed 28-26 after three quarters of play.
The Tigers had 29 first downs and 373 yards of total offense and even that wasn’t enough to slow down Tensas.
Sicily Island (0-4, 0-1) plays host to Oak Grove for a district match-up next Friday with kickoff at 7 p.m.
