Plenty of happenings in Miss-Lou

Along with the official arrival of fall, we also welcomed plenty of accomplishments last week. Let’s take a moment to remember a few of those:

•The Natchez-Adams School District surpassed a statewide average last week when the district announced approximately 95 percent of its third graders passed the third-grade reading summative assessment. With the educational landscape ever changing, we commend NASD teachers for their efforts in making certain students meet their required learning goals. We look forward to seeing 100-percent passage next year.

•The Natchez-Adams Humane Society opened its new shelter Saturday on Liberty Road. The shelter, which was 12 years in the making, boasts 6,150 square-feet of available space ready to welcome furry friends. We thank humane society president Kathy Fitch and vice president Sue Stedman and all of the other volunteers and donors for their endless enthusiasm in getting the new shelter up and running. The end result is something in which to take pride.

•Last week signaled that time of year when Natchezians don their hoop skirts and put out their period best — Fall Pilgrimage. Thanks to leaders who prepare year round for the annual tours, this year’s pilgrimage got off to a great start. We look forward to seeing visitors come in high volume, ready to see all the wonderful sights Natchez offers.

As another week gets under way, we thank everyone who works tirelessly to make the Miss-Lou such a wonderful place live, work and play.
