JONESVILLE — The Block Bears hung tough with the Rayville Hornets in the first half, but the second half belonged to Rayville as it rolled to a 42-16 non-district win over Block Friday night.
“It was a great, hard-fought game,” Block interim head coach Bo Sproles said. “The game was a lot closer than the scoreboard looked. We led 16-14 with less than a minute left until halftime.”
That was until the Hornets burned the Bears on a big play, which resulted in a touchdown and a 22-16 halftime lead. And that took the air right out of Block and the Bears were unable to stop the Hornets in the second half. Rayville ended up scoring the final 28 points of the game.
“Poor-played ball game on our part. But the team has come so far from where we’ve been,” Sproles said. “We went through six different running backs and two different quarterbacks tonight. Our whole platoon played on defense.”
There was a bright spot from Block in this game. Davonte Curry returned from an injury that had him sidelined the last few games and forced a fumble and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.
Block (0-5) next plays at LaSalle at 7 p.m. Friday in its LHSAA District 3-1A opener.
