Miss-Lou turns in another good week

A long with a few fallen leaves, last week also brought plenty of good news in the Miss-Lou. Let’s take a moment to remember our recent accomplishments:
•Jack Waite Park on St. Catherine Street had its grand reopening Saturday, debuting new playground and fitness equipment. The new equipment was provided by a grant from My Brother’s Keeper, an initiative that promotes healthy living. We thank Natchez Community Development Director James Johnston for capturing the grant funds and Ward 4 Alderman Tony Fields for advocating for the park’s renovations.
•The Natchez Tricentennial Commission not only met its goal of selling 300 commemorative tricentennial license plates Friday — they exceeded it. With that goal met, the plates will now be available for purchase during and after the city’s 300th birthday year starting Jan. 1. We commend Jennifer Ogden Combs, commission executive director, for all her hard work in making sure the 300 goal was met. We also thank all residents who purchased a plate, and encourage everyone else to follow suit.
•Lyn Fortenbery, assistant general manager of Dunleith Historic Inn, was recognized as the Mississippi Tourism Association Member of the Year Thursday at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Vicksburg. The Natchez Convention and Visitors Bureau was also honored at the conference. We applaud Fortenbery and the CVB for their endless efforts in strengthening the tourisn in Natchez.
As another busy week begins in the Miss-Lou, we thank all local officials and residents who continuously work to better the community.
