NATCHEZ — Services for Isiah “Catfish” Young Jr., 66, of Natchez, who died Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, in Las Vegas, will be 11 a.m. today at Zion Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Birdon Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be Monday at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Young was born July 9, 1949, in Adams County, the son of Isiah Young Sr. and Carrie Mae Young.
He attended Sadie V. Thompson High School and Brinkley High School. He was also a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Isiah was a self-employed painter and was retired from the Mississippi River Corporation. He was a Methodist and a member of Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church. He was also a member of the Wharlest Jackson Elk Lodge and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Isiah enjoyed playing golf, watching all sports activities, especially the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team and SWAC teams involvement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Lonnie Young and Mattie Houston Young; one aunt, Gladys Manuel; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Evelyn Manuel.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Young; two sons, Clayton Williams and Cassius Wright; two daughters, Wanda Johnson and Rhonda Banford; one brother, Lonnie Young; two sisters, Shirley J. Young and Delores McCullen; nine grandchildren, Cassidy, Courtney, Kasheka, Ashley, Nigel, Layla, Kamasha, Candice and Alexia; and a number of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
