Sam Hoggatt Sr.

WISNER, La. — Funeral services for Sam Hoggatt Sr, 78, of Wisner, La., who died Thursday Oct. 8, 2015, in Monroe, were Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Holly Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Neal Raborn and the Rev. Gary Acoin officiating.
Burial followed at Holly Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, under the direction of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home-Winnsboro, La.
Sam was born on Feb. 4, 1937, in Wisner, to the union of Wilton R. and Lishie Bell Humble Hoggatt.
Sam was a graduate from Wisner High School, a proud graduate of Louisiana State University, a forever fan of LSU football and, most importantly, a member of Holly Grove Baptist Church and a lifetime Sunday school teacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Annette Bringol Hoggatt; brothers, Wilton E. Hoggatt, Ned Hoggatt, Rodric Hoggatt and Boyce Hoggatt; sisters, O’rene Hoggatt and Nannie Lou Hoggatt; son-in-law, Lige Braswell and great-grandson, Jay Roberts.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Miller Hoggatt of Wisner; son, Sammy Hoggatt and wife, Tracy, of Mangham, La.; daughter, Eyvette Moroni and husband, Ken, of Sicily Island; grandchildren, Chase Moroni and wife, Mandy, Melanie Moroni, Samuel, Chase ‘Trey’ Hoggatt III, Johnathon Hoggatt; great-granddaughter, Olivia Blair Moroni; special adopted son, Lawrence Mathis and wife, Net; brothers, Virgil Hoggatt of Vidalia and Raymond Hoggatt and wife, Shirley, of Wisner; sister, Bell Hoggatt Cascio and husband, Dr. Ed Cascio, of Monroe; sister-in-law, Sandra Flowers of Enid and also by his brother-in-law, Robert Bringol and wife, Susan, of Humble, Texas. Sam also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Sam was also blessed by a second family, who loved him dearly; children, Eddie Miller and wife, Debbie, Sherrie Miller Braswell and Rhonda Buie and husband, John; grandchildren, Chad Miller and wife, Regina, Chris Miller and wife, Chantell, Kristi Odgen and husband, Jason, Jessi Veulaman and husband, Jeremy, Johnny Allbritton and wife, Dena, Nicki Jones and husband, Al, Tonya Allbritton, Randy Braswell and wife, Amy, Ronnie Braswell and wife, Anna, Deke Purdy and wife, Tanya, Jacob Purdy and wife, Caroline, Ashley Waldrop and husband, Aaron, Sarah Walker, Chris Buie and wife, Courtney Buie and wife and also 31 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Herman Rials, Jonathon Sharp, Carl Haring, Sam Haring, Bubba Dale Ellerbe and Johnny Sproles.
Honorary Pallbearers were Dennis Rials, Sonny Sproles, Jerry Robinson, Terry Robinson, Gary Robinson, Larry Robinson and Michah Beach.
