Miss-Lou filled with more good news

Good morning and good Monday. Let’s take a moment to remember some of the good news headlines from our community last week:
•Although high winds kept the hot-air balloons from flying most of the weekend, we’re thankful for another successful Great Mississippi River Balloon Race. The event celebrated 30 years of entertaining crowds this weekend and none of that would be possible without the scores of volunteers who prepare, plan and produce the city’s largest single weekend of the year. Thanks to all who participated, who sponsored the race and who bought tickets, T-shirts or other memorabilia to support the race.
•Congratulations to Maria Lambert, the 2015 winner of the Spirit of David Steckler award given by the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race organizing committee. Lambert has been a faithful volunteer for approximately 20 years. Her giving spirit emulates that of the awards namesake, the late Dr. David Steckler, who was a key leader and community supporter in many events, including the balloon race’s inception. Dr. Steckler would be proud of the many volunteers who continue giving of themselves as he did for so many years.
•The City of Natchez agreed to endorse plans by a non-profit group, FOR Natchez, to develop a master plan of development for two downtown areas — the bluff and the area known as the “Triangle” near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. and Jefferson streets. Any journey is destined to be a failure if it starts out without a good plan in mind. We’re delighted that the FOR Natchez group cares so much about Natchez that it’s going through the efforts to help improve our city’s most well known brand.
•Ten Judicial Adult Drug Court graduates received a diploma Thursday — signaling a new, bright chapter in their lives. The program, which includes intensive treatment and counseling, offers adults the opportunity to have their sentences reduced or in some cases completely wiped away. We congratulate all graduates, and thank program organizers for investing their time in helping others.
As we launch into another busy week let’s remember the good news from last week while we work to make new good news in the days to come.
