WINNFIELD, La. — Services for Meredith Dewey Smith, 87, of Winnfield, La., who died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, will be 11 a.m. today at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Wise and the Rev. David Womack officiating.
Burial will follow at the Squires Cemetery in the Aimwell community of LaSalle Parish under the direction of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Smith was born July 12, 1928, in McKamey, Texas, the son of Dewey and Velma Hutson Smith.
He was retired from International Paper Company with 33 years of service. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to tinker and tell stories and riddles.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bethel Prisock; son-in-law, Raymond Normand Sr.; and one grandson, Ray Normand.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Bettye Roark Smith; three daughters, Sandra Hansen and husband, Ken, of Bossier City, La., Judy McAllister and husband, Jimmy, of Winnfield and Melinda Stewart and husband, Bo, of Jonesboro, La.; one son, Curtis Smith and wife, Carolyn, of Jonesville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Smith of Ferriday; and one sister, Esther Day of Nashville, Tenn.
Pallbearers will be Robert McAllister, Huey McAllister, Danny McAllister, Jason McAllister, Joey Short and Josh Shelton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Smith, Lamar Prisock and Gleen Shelton.
