FERRIDAY — Services for Jackie Mae Ferrington, 80, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her loving family and friends, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Young’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Russell Wagoner and the Rev. Tim Vanier officiating.
Burial will follow at Holly Grove Cemetery in Wisner, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ferrington was born Dec. 17, 1936, in Sicily Island, the daughter of James Smith and Mary Williamson Smith.
She loved spending time with her family and friends, working in her flower beds and she loved out-fishing her husband.
Mrs. Ferrington was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William Melvin Ferrington Jr.; one grandson, William Ernest Champion; one great-great-grandson, Gunner Lee Johnson; two brothers, Buddy and Bill Smith; and two sisters, Mary Rushing and Katheryn Sanders.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Melvin Ferrington; two daughters, Janice Gillespie and husband, Dwight, of Sicily Island and Tammy Champion and husband, Ernest, of Flowood; a special adopted son, Henry Vanier of Vidalia; eight grandchildren, Maggie Johnson, Sam Gillespie, Jackie Gillespie, Dwight Gillespie Jr., April Wicker, Dallas Pirman, Sarah Fisher and Jamie Ferrington; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dwight Gillespie Jr., Jamie Ferrington, Jim Smith, Tony Smith, Chris Wicker and Gary Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Smith, Cary Berry, Henry Vanier and Dr. Kevin Ingram.
