Weekend ticket: Convention, gardening class set for weekend

NATCHEZ — A warm, mild February will bring Natchez a weekend of pleasant weather and interesting things to do.
The weather this weekend should be cloudy, with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 50s until Monday.
Friday and Saturday have a 10-percent chance of rain, with a 10-percent chance on Sunday.
Monday is expected to bring cool winds and thunderstorms.
Friday Forum
Adams County Supervisors and officials have been invited to the Natchez Coffee Company on Franklin Street from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday to give the public an update on recent developments and government decisions in the county.
Officials from the City of Natchez are invited to the forum next Friday, Feb. 26.
Admission is free, and refreshments will be for sale at the coffee shop.
Archaeology convention
A meeting of the Louisiana Archaeology Society and the Mississippi Archaeology Association will begin 12:45 p.m. Friday at the Natchez Grand Hotel.
The convention will commemorate the construction of Fort Rosalie by the French at Natchez 300 years ago, the founding of the National Park Service 100 years ago and the establishment of the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians as a Mississippi State Park 40 years ago.
The keynote speaker will be Jim Barnett, former director of the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians.
The weekend-long event will include presentations of archaeological research, a walking tour to the Fort Rosalie site and an outing to the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. Tickets are $25 at the door.
Master Gardeners training class
The Adams County Master Gardeners, a local volunteer group that does landscaping and community service projects, will meet 8 a.m. Thursday in the greenhouse on Copiah-Lincoln Community College Natchez campus.
The class is offered by the Adams County office of the Mississippi State University Extension Service and is open to the public.
Concordia PAWS fundraiser
The Concordia PAWS fundraiser will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Concordia PAWS is a newly formed non-profit animal welfare organization serving Concordia Parish. They are raising money to begin a spay-and-neuter program in response to the number of stray dogs and cats in the area. Concordia PAWS hopes to eventually build an animal shelter.
The organization will sell seafood-free jambalaya at the Concordia Parish Courthouse parking lot. Orders of five or more can be delivered.
No pre-order is required, but orders can be placed in advance by calling 318-757-1700. Those who wish to volunteer to help with the event can call the same number.
