Ferriday mayoral race in runoff

FERRIDAY — In unofficial election results, Ferriday’s mayor is slated for a run-off, while in Clayton voters ousted their incumbent.

Ferriday Mayor Gene Allen received 388 votes, or 35 percent, falling second to Sherrie “Ms Mac” Jacobs, who received 532 votes, or 47 percent.

Challenger Ruth Gray came in third with 10 percent of the vote — 112 total — while Justin Conner received 8 percent, or 90 votes.

“It appears the people want a run-off,” Allen said after the votes came in. “I will talk with my people to see where we go from here.”

Jacobs could not be reached for comment.

In Ferriday Alderman District B, incumbent Stepper Banks lost to Chryl Smith Lee by two votes — 98 to 96.

In Ferriday’s District D, incumbent Johnnie Brown won re-election with 54 percent of the vote, or 116 total. Challengers Marcus “Slim” Martin received 64 votes, while Andre J. Keys received 33.

In District E, incumbent Gloria Lloyd took the race with 77 percent of the ballot with 106 votes, while Andrew Howard Jr. received 31 votes.

In Clayton, Mayoral candidate Josephine Taylor Washington won over incumbent Rydell Turner, Washington received 158 votes to Turner’s 109.

Clayton’s police chief race saw Bobby Madison Sr. defeat Clarence “Papa” Skipper. Madison received 147 votes to Skipper’s 116.

The Clayton aldermen’s race — in which voters chose five aldermen from a slate of six — went to Floyd Lavon Barber, Willie “Bill” Evans, Houston Holmes, Irene Jefferson and Shannon Burns Madison.
