NATCHEZ — Services for Janie L. “Aunt Janie” Green Johnson, 85, of Natchez, who died Friday, March 19, 2016, in Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 5:45 p.m. today with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Johnson was born April 14, 1930, in Natchez, the daughter of Willie Green and Esther Hawkins.
She was the oldest of three children.
Janie attended St. Francis High School. Since the age of 12, Janie worked diligently for Mr. and Mrs. Billy Priester for 61 years.
In February 1989, she married the Rev. Evans Johnson. She was a woman of great faith and was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church.
Janie enjoyed spending time with her family, watching westerns and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Alonzo Green; and one sister-in-law, Knoxine Green.
Survivors include one brother, Richard Green of Natchez; one sister, Gloria Jefferson of Baton Rouge; five dear nieces, Carolyn Green Owens and husband, Michael, Diane Washington and companion, Harry Billups, who graciously cared for her during her illness, Karen Hawkins and husband, Shun, and Janice Dobbins and husband, Larry, all of Natchez, and Kathleen Ruth and husband, Cory, of Atlanta; one grandson, Adrin Green and wife, Gladys; a number of other nieces, nephews and friends; and a special extended family, the Priester family and Helen Smith and her family.
