NATCHEZ — Natchez is competing for a special honor from USA Today.
The City of Natchez was nominated for “Best Historic Small Town,” an award given by the publication’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice Travel Award panel.
Natchez will vie for the honor among 19 other small towns, including Oxford and Williamsburg, Va.
Visit Natchez Administrative Assistant Amanda Hargrove said the winner would receive free promotion and online advertising of its tourism attractions.
“Please vote for our beautiful city,” Hargrove said. “Natchez deserves to win this.”
The Best Historic Small Town award is new this year, but Natchez has been nominated for other awards by the USA Today panel in years past, Hargrove said.
In May 2015, Natchez placed fifth in the newspaper’s “Best Southern Small Towns” contest.
Voting is open online at www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-historic-small-town/natchez-miss, and each device can vote once every 11 hours.
Voting ends April 25 at noon. The winner will be announced online April 29 at noon, then later on USA Today.
