NATCHEZ — The Natchez City Clerk’s office issued an apology Monday to a candidate they said was given the wrong campaign finance information and was later inadvertently overlooked when sending out the correct information.
Municipal judge candidate Carmen Brooks missed a campaign finance report deadline May 3 because she had been given the wrong form — which gave a May 10 date — at the clerk’s office.
City Clerk Donnie Holloway said candidates were notified they had forms with the incorrect date — which were generated by the secretary of state’s of office — by email after the forms were corrected in April.
Brooks did not receive the email, however, which was sent to all candidates April 11.
Assistant City Clerk Diane Holland said Monday that she had incorrectly entered Brooks’ email address at the time the email was sent out.
“She had an ATT address, and I put something else down,” Holland said. “I just made a typo.”
Holland said she has given Brooks a letter apologizing for the mistake.
