All talk and no action is a recipe for a complete and utter lack of respect.
That’s exactly why county court fines have stayed on the county’s books for years and years with virtually no fear in the hearts of those who owed money to the courts.
After literally years of talking, Adams County finally appears to be ready to take strong action in an effort to collect the money owed to the public.
The county announced plans Monday to begin issuing bench warrants to those who are on the delinquent list.
The result apparently worked wonders, county officials said Tuesday.
Supervisor Mike Lazarus said Adams County Justice Court and Adams County’s Sanitation Department was overwhelmed with people paying fines, apparently having no intention of being arrested.
Hats off to Adams County supervisors and officials with justice court for finally agreeing on how to attack the problem.
With continued strong enforcement, the county should be in a great position to take a significant dent out of the delinquent fines and quickly help improve the county’s cash position.
Serious consequences will earn respect for both the court system and for the county’s leadership team as a whole.
