NATCHEZ — Eagle Electric found itself staring at a six-run deficit heading into the final inning of Thursday night’s Angel’s Division softball game against Natchez Rehab.
A rally started by Ashley Roy led to a five-run third inning, but the rally fell just short — with Carlee Kaiser, the go-ahead run on first — and Natchez rehab pulled out an 11-10 win.
“We were not with it tonight,” coach Belinda Bashier said. “They knew where to go (to make plays in the field), they just have to focus.”
Both teams utilized patient plate approaches. Eagle Electric led off the top of the first by drawing three walks and a two-RBI single from Maci Jones helped the team out to a 4-0 lead to start off the ballgame.
Natchez Rehab was not free swinging either, The first four batters drew four walks to start the bottom of the first inning, Saniyah Malone, Faith Gutter, Alyssa Aucoin, Joy Gutter and Hope Gutter batted in seven-combined runs for Natchez Rehab to enter the field with a 7-4 lead.
“I think my best play was when I was batting, and I was about to get out, but I got a walk,” Aucoin said.
Natchez Rehab pitcher Malone held Eagle Electric to one run in the second inning to retain a 6-5 lead. Kaylee Richardson batted in the lone run for Eagle Electric with a walk with the bases loaded.
Malone got a rally started for her team at the plate in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff double.
“Today I didn’t think I played as well as I could, but I did my best,“ Malone said. “I always hit like that, but I wanted to get a home run.”
The rally led to four more runs crossing the plate to take a six-run lead.
Natchez Rehab needed each one of those runs to win the game. Saniyah fielded a ground ball and Makenzie Campbell recorded the putout for the first out, and the Natchez Rehab pitcher earned strikeouts for the final two outs to end the game.
Natchez Rehab’s win improves their record to 6-3 on the season.
Additionally for Eagle Electric, Lace Dosset scored one run, Natalie Smith batted in and scored a run and Chandler Clark batted in two runs with a run scored.
Additionally for Natchez Rehab, Marley Watson was 2-2 with two singles and a run scored.
