NATCHEZ — Services for Howard D. O’Gwin, 81, of Natchez, who died Saturday, June 4, 2016, at his residence, will be at a later date under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. O’Gwin was born May 17, 1935, in Nauvoo, Ala., the son of Benjamin Washington O’Gwin and Bessie Lee Monasco O’Gwin.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was married to the late Virginia O’Gwin for 50 years, making his home in Natchez. He was known well in the construction industry. He spent his career as a paint and drywall contractor. Known by many as “Mr. Howard,” he made many friends over the years and was very easy to talk to. Howard enjoyed fishing, church and reading the Bible. He was a kind, gentle and humble man who will be greatly missed.
Mr. O’Gwin was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandsons Tate Lipscome and Max and Scott Byrd; great grandson, Myles Hill; one brother; and two sisters.
Survivors include one son, Van O’Gwin, and wife, Ljuba, of Vidalia; two daughters, Jan Lipscomb and husband, Randy, of Walker, La., and Gina Byrd of Natchez; two sisters, Bettye Davis and Billye Rains; five grandchildren, Stephen Lipscomb, Jamie Lipscomb and wife, Krissy, Sean O’Gwin, Ben O’Gwin, Kelly Hill and husband, Chris; daughter in law, Paula Guillot; and six great grandchildren, Lily Byrd, Gavin Lipscomb, Michael and Khloe Lipscomb, and Declan and Mylee Hill.
The family extends special thanks to the nursing staff at Glenburnie Nursing Home, Stahome Health, Compassus Hospice and Dr. Barry Tillman and his staff.
