Approach of Vidalia old guard off base

The Town of Vidalia’s old guard leadership must stop trying to throw sticks into the spokes of the new leadership before the oaths of office are even sworn.
On Wednesday, in an unusual move, Alderman Tron McCoy opted to be the front man in a strange meeting of all Town of Vidalia employees.
The subject was the rights of employees as McCoy viewed them.
The apparent cause that prompted the meeting was that incoming mayor Buz Craft had told some city employees that their positions would be eliminated shortly after he takes office next Friday.
Let’s cut the new guy a little bit of slack. Rather than try to make a spectacle out of what appears to be his logical plan to downsize the bloated Vidalia government, consider the facts.
If Craft actually met with the soon-to-be affected employees, good for him. At least he had the guts and the compassion to communicate his plans ahead of time, perhaps giving the employees some time to consider their options.
As far as McCoy is concerned, while his heart may be in the right place, his approach is off base.
Dragging all of the town’s employees to a meeting to discuss the town’s handbook during work hours underscores the over-staffed nature of the town and its slightly misguided leaders of the past. The people of Vidalia have spoken. They wanted change. Some of the old guard simply needs to accept that change.
