Two innings proved to be the difference against Adams County Christian School Monday night.

Parklane Academy erupted for four runs in the third and topped it off with an eight-run sixth to run-rule the Lady Rebels 14-3 in MAIS softball action.

“We have to improve on our little mistakes and not getting tired,” ACCS coach Tate Lipscomb said. “Toward the end, our girls got a little tired, and that’s where that big inning came from.”

Parklane’s big sixth-inning rally was capped off by a grand slam by Kristen McElveen.

Before the eight-run outburst, ACCS (1-1) managed to cut the deficit to 6-3 after scoring a solo run in the bottom of the fifth. Shelby Mason and Lexie Emanuel each recorded base hits, and Mason came around to score following a Parklane throwing error.

The Lady Pioneers opened the scoring with a four-run third inning.

The Lady Rebels, however, cut the deficit in half after Carly Delaney had a run-scoring single and Marlee Magee drove in Mason with an RBI groundout.

“They’re doing great,” Lipscomb said. “They’ve got to hit the ball a little better, but other than that, they’re doing a great job.”

ACCS won its season opener Friday night, 8-5 over Central Private, and will attempt to notch their first home win of the season at 6:30 p.m. today when it hosts the same school.

“The way to win a ball game is to be the quickest team to record 21 outs,” Lipscomb said. “We have to cut out the little mistakes. If we don’t make the mistakes, play defense, then they can’t beat you. We’ve been concentrating on not making the mistakes and putting the ball in play.”
