Jefferson County ready for 2016 campaign

Like many teams throughout the Miss-Lou, Jefferson County High School had its jamboree game last Friday canceled due to severe weather, and coach James Herrington said his players were not happy about it.
“They were disappointed not play last Friday,” he said. “But they’re going to bring that pent-up enthusiasm to the field this week.”
The Tigers are set to host South Pike High School at 7 p.m. Friday. The Eagles’ 2-8 2015 campaign preceded coach John Culpepper’s departure.
A new head coach was named in the summer when Brinson Wall was tapped to lead South Pike, a program with a strong history.
Last year, the Tigers defeated the Eagles in Magnolia, 20-8.
Herrington said Wall was the offensive coordinator at North Pike High School last year and that because of last Friday’s jamboree not taking place, no film was exchanged between the two teams.
“Anytime you play a team with a new coach and no film, it’s tough. He ran a spread offense at North Pike,” Herrington said. “I was told they run a 3-4 defense, so we’re preparing for that.”
Herrington said in order for his team to come out with a win Friday night, the defense cannot give up big plays, the offense must take care of the ball, and his squad must win the time-of-possession battle.
“I think if we can win time of possession, we can win the game,” Herrington said. “Special teams could be where the game is won or lost.”
