VIDALIA — Services for Charles Gordan Smith, 80, of Vidalia, who died Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, in Vidalia, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Vidalia First Baptist Church with the Rev. Wes Faulk officiating.
Burial will follow at Rosefield Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Vidalia chapel and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Mr. Smith was born July 26, 1936, in Sicily Island, the son of C.N. Smith and Bertie Robinson Smith.
He was a member of Vidalia First Baptist Church. He was also owner and operator of Ellis Variety Store for more than 25 years and later sold insurance and made a number of friends with Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Buford Smith; and two sisters, Adilene Smedley and Clarice Welch.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Chloa Hyde Smith; two daughters, Lisa Hixon and husband, Chuck, of Ruston, La., and Amanda Cuillory and husband, Snoopy, of Mittie, La.; two grandsons, Mason Hixon and wife, Ginny, of Choudrant, La., and Spencer Burley and wife, Peyton, of Houston; two granddaughters, Sarah Pender and husband, Garrett, of Dallas and Brittany Burley of Oberlin, La.; three sisters-in-law, Cheryl McGuffee, Cleo Pererio and Edna Hodges; one niece, Ruthie Cooper of Rayville, La.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Hixon, Mason Hixon, Garrett Pender, Snoopy Guillory, Spencer Burley and Claire Shields.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Thompson, Bob Partrige, R.V. Mize, Augusta Phillips, Raymond Phillips, Rodney Phillips, Justin McGuffee, Roger Moore, Monroe Roark and Mike Cooper.
