NATCHEZ — A 21-year-old Natchez man was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly causing $20,000 in damage to the Beau Pré Country Club Golf Course last weekend.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Joseph Peyton Wilson, 21, 104 Dana Road, on a charge of felony malicious mischief.
Sheriff Travis Patten said Thursday evening more arrests are possible.
Deputies were able to follow two sets of fresh tracks to a field that adjoins a residence on U.S. 61, ACSO spokeswoman Sgt. Cal Green said.
When deputies went to the residence, an ATV was located with fresh wet grass and grass seeds all over it. Further investigation led to the arrest of Wilson, Green said.
Patten said it is possible the ATV was involved in the vandalism. He said one of the vehicles involved is believed to be a dark colored Jeep.
“We have sent all of that off to the crime lab,” Patten said. “It is still under investigation.”
Deputies were dispatched to the country club Saturday at 6:32 a.m. with a report of loud music and a motor vehicle revving up on the golf course. The caller also reported a black vehicle rutting up the course.
“I am glad the residents of Beau Pré reached out to law enforcement quickly,” Patten said. “It just goes to show that when citizens work with law enforcement, it shows how quickly it can lead to an arrest.
“We want to thank them for being willing to step forward in this matter.”
Wilson was in jail Thursday evening with no bond set.
