VIDALIA — Days after being released from jail, a Vidalia man was back behind bars Thursday for allegedly attacking a police officer.

Vidalia police arrested Steven E. Egloff, 45, 366 Audubon Acres Circle, Wednesday evening on charges of disturbing the peace, two counts resisting an officer, battery on a police officer and public intimidation.

Vidalia police spokesman Capt. Frankie Carroll said Egloff was reportedly being unruly with Budget Inn staff, yelling loudly and demanding the hotel return his money and clean his room.

Carroll said Egloff allegedly would not calm down and the staff called the Vidalia Police Department. An officer was dispatched to diffuse the situation, Carroll said.

Upon arrival, the officer reportedly observed Egloff to be irate and appeared to be intoxicated, Carroll said.

Egloff reportedly threatened to harm the officer, causing the officer to call for backup, Carroll said. When a second officer arrived on scene, Egloff is alleged to have attacked the first officer, causing the second officer to use his Taser to subdue Egloff.

Egloff was in jail Thursday afternoon with no bond set.
