Mississippi prep roundup: Franklin County hand North Pike 38-6 loss

MEADVILLE — Loyd Star had 83 yards on one play and just 38 yards the rest of the game thanks to a swarming defense by Franklin County that forced five turnovers in the Bulldogs’ 38-6 win over the Hornets Friday night.

Franklin County intercepted three passes, recovered two fumbles, and held Loyd Star to minus-26 yards rushing.

De’martre Collins threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns on 11-for-22 passing. Isaiah Elam had eight catches for 110 yards and one touchdown. Keonte’ Bee had two total touchdowns.

Special teams also contributed with two safeties as Loyd Star’s punter was forced out of the end zone twice in the second quarter.

Franklin County (2-2) plays at 7 p.m. Friday at Lawrence County.

Centreville Academy 33, Ben’s Ford 6

CENTREVILLE — The Centreville Academy Tigers celebrated homecoming with a 33-6 win over the Ben’s Ford Christian School Eagles Friday night.

In the MAIS District 5-AAA opener for both teams, Centreville jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Austen Addington, who had nine carries for 79 yards, had touchdown runs of 6 and 30 yards. Tyler Thomassie scored on a 7-yard run.

The Tigers scored on touchdown passes by Thomassie and Jace Delee in the second quarter. Ben’s Ford scored late in the third quarter.

Centreville Academy (3-1, 1-0) plays at 7 p.m. Friday at Oak Forest Academy.

South Delta 34,

Jefferson County 28

ROLLING FORK — The duo of Arteise Myles and Mykel McGree combined to score three touchdowns in the second half as the South Delta Bulldogs rallied to defeat the Jefferson County Tigers 34-28 Friday night.

Trailing 28-14 at halftime, Class 2A South Delta stuck to the running game that eventually wore down Class 3A Jefferson County. McGee scored on a 50-yard run less than two minutes into the third quarter. Myles scored on a 6-yard run and his 2-point conversion run tied the game at 28-28 near the end of the quarter.

Myles scored the game-winning touchdown run from nine yards out with 9:25 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Jefferson County got off to a good start thanks in large part to the arm and legs of quarterback Rah’Kendrick Reynolds. He had two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass while Jalen Herrington scored on a 70-yard run. But the Tigers’ offense bogged down in the second half.

Jefferson County (1-3) next plays at 7 p.m. Friday at Amite County.

Wilkinson County 20,

North Pike 7

SUMMIT — Quarterback Ja’Quorias Stewart threw for over 200 yards and one touchdown as the Wilkinson County Wildcats defeated the North Pike Jaguars 20-7 Friday night in a game played at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

Stewart completed 15 of 24 passes for 207 yards and had a touchdown run. Juan Anthony Jr. had seven receptions for 115 yards and one touchdown. Terry Mealey Jr. had 15 carries for 99 yards and one touchdown.

Wilkinson County trailed North Pike 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, only to take the lead for good with a touchdown and 2-point conversion in the second quarter. The Wildcats scored again in the third quarter.

Terrell Coleman Jr. had a solid game on both sides of the ball. He had 11 carries for 40 yards to go with nine tackles and one interception. Tremorrion Mealey ahd six tackles and one pick.

Wilkinson County (2-2) plays again at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts Scotlandville (La.) High School.
