Navy ships in good news for week

Labor Day is over, college football has begun and hints of fall are in the air. As we daydream of cooler weather, let us look at some of good news from last week:
4Do not be surprised if by the end of the week Natchez residents are humming the U.S. Navy anthem “Anchors Away.” It is Navy Week in Natchez. Approximately 75 sailors and U.S. Navy civilians have docked at the Natchez Visitor Reception Center as part of the city’s tricentennial. Through Wednesday, residents and local students will get an opportunity to understand many of the things the Navy does. Exhibits will highlight mine warfare, oceanography and deep sea diving. A U.S. Navy band will offer free concerts on Monday and Wednesday. The Navy is also partnering with the Natchez-Adams Community Alliance for a cleanup day on the bluff and nature trails. So when you see a sailor in town this week, thank them for their service and for helping celebrate the city’s 300th birthday.
4The first graduating class of the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies program received certificates Friday after working with coaches to learn everything from proper maternal nutrition to benefits of breastfeeding. Many of the graduates also participated in an early childhood development seminar led by trainers from the Lamar County School District. Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell and other local leaders have previously praised the program for the positive impact it will have on Natchez and Adams County. Thanks to the City of Natchez for helping providing vital information to mothers that would not be able to learn it from any other source.
As we prepare for another week, let us remember to give thanks to everyone who is striving to make our community great.
