For Wilkinson County Christian Academy head coach Christopher McGraw, the plan for this Friday night’s MAIS District 5-AA opener against Porters Chapel Academy is simple.
McGraw said he wants to make sure that the Rams, ranked No. 4 in this week’s Clarion-Ledger MAIS Class A-AA poll, do not overlook the winless Eagles and do not look ahead to Amite School Center and Trinity Episcopal in the coming weeks.
McGraw said staying focused on Porters Chapel will be the key to success for his team when the two teams kick off at 7 p.m.
The Eagles come into this game at 0-7 overall and 0-1 in district play, having already lost to Trinity Episcopal 54-14.
The scoring output is the most points they have scored all season.
Porters Chapel has scored just 27 points in its seven games and have been shut out four times, including last week’s 52-0 loss at No. 3 Prentiss Christian School.
WCCA enters this home game with a 5-1 overall record after taking care of River Oaks School on the road 36-19. Caleb Poole ran for 239 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries in that game.
As for what concerns him most about the Eagles, McGraw said, “They have some pretty good depth. They do a lot of spread offense and different formations. They’re four- and five-wide. Sometimes you have to adjust your personnel. Sometimes you have to go with what your have.”
Health-wise, McGraw said that his team is pretty banged up, but he hopes to have a few players back before game-time this week that missed practice on Tuesday.
