Airport set to complete projects

NATCHEZ — With big-ticket projects complete in the last fiscal year, the Natchez-Adams County Airport will come into this year looking to complete a couple smaller projects.
Airport Manager Bob Hawk said beginning around the end of the month or first of November, the airport will look to make minor repairs on the main runway and undertake a restriping project on the taxiways. The project will be $108,717.
Hawk said the airport’s ability to do projects is grant driven. Hawk said the airport received the Federal Aviation Administration grant based on urgency.
“The paint has faded to the point where it is almost not reflective on the taxiway,” Hawk said. “It is urgent to get the old paint up and the new down before we are not in compliance.
“The runway just needs some patch repairs.”
During the past year, the airport completed projects valued at more than $800,000 through federal and state grants.
Projects included the construction of eight new airport hangers under one roof and a new fuel storage and distribution terminal.
Hawk said the T-hangers have slots for small, private aircraft. Hawk said the construction brings the facility up to 26 T-hangers — all filled except two — box hangers and a large hanger used for corporate jets.
The work on the “fuel farm” replaced a “dinosaur” of a system, Hawk said. The project replaced vertical tanks, aging pipers and filters with a system better suited for current aviation needs, including a self-service system for pilots who wish to fuel their own planes, he said.
