WCCA looks to keep dominance over ASC going

Dating back to the 2004 season, Wilkinson County Christian Academy has dominated its rivalry with Amite School Center.
The Rams have won eight of the nine meetings with the Rebels.
The only time Amite School Center defeated WCCA in that span was in 2008, with the Rebels taking a 31-18 victory.
Last year, the Rams took care of the Rebels in an MAIS District 5-AA game, 38-18, on their way to winning the district championship and eventually the Class A-AA state championship.
WCCA (6-1, 1-0) will look to extend its four-game winning streak when it hosts Amite School Center at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Rams defeated Porter’s Chapel Academy 52-7 last week while the Rebels (3-6, 0-1) beat Brookhaven Academy 36-6.
Rams head coach Christopher McGraw said his team cannot take the Rebels for granted after ASC put a scare in Trinity Episcopal three weeks ago.
“They’re big and physical, and they play extremely hard,” he said. “They played Trinity to nine points (44-35). Their record doesn’t tell that about them.”
One challenge that Amite School Center brings is senior quarterback/running back Davin Booty, McGraw said.
“He is phenomenal. He’s not their only player, but he’s like (WCCA quarterack) Caleb Poole. Everything goes through him,” McGraw said.
McGraw said the key to success for his team is getting off the field on third down and letting the offense take control of the game.
“If we can get our defense off the field and turn it over to our offense, we’ll be fine,” McGraw said. “But if they have some long drives and we can’t get off the field, we’ll be in a bind.”
McGraw said that a key matchup to watch Friday night will be which team takes control of the line of scrimmage.
“Their line isn’t as big as ours,” McGraw said. “It’s going to come down to whose line is going to control the front.”
