Natchez to host defending 5A champ, Wayne County

Natchez High School is limping into today’s showdown against Wayne County High School, literally and figuratively.
The Bulldogs (1-6, 0-3) have dropped their last six games and have several key players questionable for tonight, Natchez coach Roy Rigsby said.
And things don’t appear to be getting any easier as Natchez hosts the defending MHSAA Class 5A champs in Wayne County High School.
“They have a fast elusive quarterback that we’re going to have to contain,” Rigsby said.
The first-year coach said he thinks his team will be without linebacker Fred Givens in addition to being uncertain if quarterback Chris Scott will be able to play because of injury. The first-year coach added that his squad has a running back and a few linemen that are potentially out as well.
“The injury bug is on us right now, and we’re struggling with that,” Rigsby said. “We have to use the next man up mentality and guys have to take advantage of playing opportunities. But we’re still looking forward to playing in front of our home crowd.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
