The Delta Charter School Storm played mistake-free football for the first time this season, but a big discrepancy in rushing yards was the difference as the Delhi Charter Gators took a 45-19 win Friday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.

“It’s tough. We don’t accept losing,” Delta Charter head coach Zach Rogel said.

Delhi Charter (5-2, 4-0) finished with 412 total rushing yards while Delta Charter had just eight total yards rushing. Five of the Gators’ six touchdowns were on the ground.

The Storm scored the first touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run by Jalen Williams. Then the Gators scored 38 consecutive points over a span of the first and second quarters.

Delta Charter scored right before halftime on a 46-yard pass from Lee Lancaster to Dawson Woodruff to make it a 38-13 game at the half.

Delhi Charter scored on a 2-yard run in the third quarter to go up 45-13. Delta Charter scored on a 15-yard pass from Trey Pool to Woodruff.

“The silver lining is I thought we played hard tonight,” Rogel said. “We scored three touchdowns on them. We showed some progress, but we’ve got a ways to go.”

Delta Charter (1-6, 0-4) plays at Sicily Island at 7 p.m. Friday.
