Sicily Island falls in overtime to Delhi, 19-18

In a back-and-forth game between two teams going in completely opposite directions, the Delhi High School Bears escaped with a 19-18 overtime win over the Sicily Island High School Tigers Friday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.

Sicily Island jumped out to an early 6-0 lead but Delhi (4-3, 3-1) responded with touchdowns in the first and second quarter as the Bears went into halftime leading 12-6.

But midway through the third quarter, the Tigers scored a touchdown to tie the game at 12-12. The game would remain tied until the game went into overtime, where the Bears outscored the Tigers 7-6.

Sicily Island (0-6, 0-4) quarterback Tyreke Tolliver threw for 144 yards and ran for another 43 yards. Running back Darren Richards had 91 yards rushing on just nine carries, and wide receiver Devion Dunbar had four receptions for 86 yards.

Sicily Island (0-6, 0-4) plays host to Delta Charter School at 7 p.m. Friday.
