Patriotism leads week of good news

In a week that celebrated our country’s core democratic principles and the military heroes who risk their lives to preserve our freedoms, let’s look at some of highlights in our community:

  • St. John the Baptist Church celebrated its 100th anniversary with the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jackson Joseph Kopacz and an overflow crowd filled with parishioners and former priests who faithfully served the small wood-framed church in the Cranfield community. The afternoon was filled with stories from the church’s past, celebration of the present congregation and prayers for its continued service in the future.
  • The Natchez-Adams County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity handed over the keys to the 20th house the organization has built in the last 25 years. Andrea Loyd became a proud homeowner, thanks to area volunteers who helped build her house from the ground up. As per Habitat for Humanity rules, Loyd and her two children also pitched in to build the three-bedroom residence on Garden Street. Thanks to all who gave of their time, effort and energy through the last quarter of a century to help provide affordable housing for people in need.
  • Veterans across the Miss-Lou were honored for their service to our country. Students from Natchez, Vidalia, Ferriday and Jonesville hosted Veterans Day services. Local Boy Scouts hosted a flag retirement service in honor of the holiday. Residents lined Franklin and Main streets in downtown Natchez to honor area veterans during Sunday’s annual parade organized by the Miss-Lou Veterans Coalition. Thanks to all who showed their gratitude to area veterans for their service.

As we enter another week, let’s remember to give thanks to everyone who strives to make our community great.
