Ferriday takes two against parish rival Vidalia

FERRIDAY — After getting off to a somewhat slow start, Ferriday High School outscored Concordia Parish rival Vidalia High School in each of the final three quarters as the Trojans defeated the Vikings 69-60 Thursday night.

Vidalia (0-2) jumped out to a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. But it was the second quarter that did the Vikings in as they were held to just 11 points while Ferriday (1-1) put up 19 points to take a 33-28 lead into halftime.

The Trojans made sure they responded to each comeback attempt the Vikings put forth in the second half. Ferriday outscored Vidalia 16-15 in the third quarter and 20-17 in the fourth quarter.

Marquell Griffin led Ferriday with 22 points, and Roosevelt Davis had 17 points. Jarred Turner was the top scorer for Vidalia with 16 points.

Vidalia next plays at Natchez High School at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Ferriday plays host to New Living Word at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Ferriday girls 55, Vidalia 26

FERRIDAY — Zhane Green led the Ferriday Lady Trojans with 13 points and Anasia Turner added 12 points as they defeated the Vidalia Lady Vikings 55-26 Thursday night.

Ferriday (2-0) led Vidalia 11-3 after one quarter of play and then put the game out of reach with a 21-8 advantage in the second quarter for a 32-11 halftime lead.

Jalyn Smith led the Lady Vikings with a game-high 16 points, but Ferriday’s defense and depth were too much for Vidalia (1-1) to handle.

Vidalia next plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Natchez High.

Ferriday hosts New Living Word at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29.
