NATCHEZ — Services for the Rev. John L. Quinn Sr., 78, of Hammond, La., formerly of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, in Hammond, will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Anthony Colenburg officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
A celebration of life wake service will be at 7 p.m., with visitation to follow the service.
Visitation will continue from 1:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Rev. Quinn was born Sept. 16, 1938, in Natchez, the son of Cicero P. Quinn and Geneva Isaac Quinn.
He was a 1959 graduate of Natchez College and was retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company. He was also retired owner of Quinn Logging.
Rev. Quinn served as pastor, African Methodist Episcopal and associate pastor and African Methodist Zion. His memberships included South Mississippi Conference of A.M.E. Church, Itinerant Elder, Ministerial Alliance, Natchez Business and Civic League, Business Man of the Year and Mississippi Loggers Association. He enjoyed work, church duties, studying the word of God, westerns and keeping up with his grandchildren.
Rev. Quinn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eliza Randall Quinn; one son, John Quinn Jr.; three brothers, Joseph, George and Elisha Quinn; and two sisters, Margree Quinn Williams and Alvin Louise Howard.
Survivors include his wife, Dr. Clara Robertson Quinn; one daughter, Carmen Quinn Stewart and husband, Oscar; two grandchildren, Damien Stewart and Chelsea Stewart; two brothers, Henry Quinn and wife, Audrey, of Chicago and Sampson Quinn; two sisters, Mary L. Fitzgerald and Della Quinn; three stepchildren, Dr. Shirley Robertson-Guillory, Dr. Schellia Robertson and Pierre Robertson of Hammond; four sisters-in-law, Eliza Quinn, Augustine Adams. Rosa Lee Johnson and Margie Self; three brothers-in-law, the Rev. Leon Howard Sr., Jimmie L. Randall and Clevon Self and wife, Tina; and other relatives and friends.
