VIDALIA — Services for Artimease “Artie” Shaver Embry, 96, of Shreveport, La., who died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, in Shreveport, will be 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Wes Faulk officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, where she will be laid next to her husband, Rufus, under the direction Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mrs. Embry was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of John Roscoe Shaver and Odessa Stone Shaver.
She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Centenary College in 1952. After graduation, she taught school for 20 years, most of those years in Vidalia. Artie married James Rufus Embry, March 17, 1940, in Minden, La. She and Rufus taught an adult Sunday school class for a number of years at First Baptist Church in Vidalia, where they were also involved in a number of other church ministries. She loved her Lord and was a witness of her Christian faith. Her gift of hospitality was enjoyed by many.
Mrs. Embry also had a passion for crocheting. Over her lifetime, she made afghans, stuffed animals and many other things. Her beautiful life will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Embry was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters; one brother; and one son-in-law, Stephen Chevalier.
Survivors include her three children, Charles Embry and wife, Polly Detels, of Bellingham, Wash., Marilyn Chevalier of Petal and Janelle McCullough and husband, Mike, of Keithville, La.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Probst, Jay Welch, Caleb Roach, Matthew Embry, Patrick Embry and Jim Feduccia.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Vidalia or to a charity of choice.
